What do languages have to with missions?

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. John 3:26

There are over 6,912 language groups living on the earth today, yet at lest one third of the worlds languages (about 2,286) languages have never had a single verse of scripture translated for them in a written form. They don't have God's love letter in their "heart language" --  that which best speaks to them.

Jesus said that the Good News of His life and atoning death for us would go into all the world and be preached to every nation. That word, nation, in the original languages doesn't mean a political nation but an ethnic group. What most often divides one nation, of this sort, from another is its language. See the Gospel of Matthew chapter 24 verse 14.

The last book in the Bible, Revelation, tells us in chapter five that Jesus was killed so that his blood would be used to purchase men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Do you want God to speak to you?

If so prepare your heart and study these places in His Word:

God sees the ends of the earth:

Job 28:24  for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.

They are Christ’s inheritance:

Psalms 2:8  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.

All the nations will bow down before Him:

Psalms 22:27  All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,

Psalms 48:10  Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.

God wants His knowledge to be spread to the ends of the earth:

Psalms 61:2  From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalms 65:5  You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas,

Psalms 67:7  God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Isaiah 40:28  Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

Isaiah 41:9  I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

Isaiah 43:6  I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth.

Isaiah 45:22  "Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 52:10  The LORD will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

Mark 13:27  And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

Acts 1:8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 13:47  For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

Revelation 7:9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.
